End-to-End Available Bandwidth Estimation in Multi-Hop IEEE 802.11b Ad Hoc Networks

چکیده
In this paper we estimate the end-to-end capacity and available bandwidth of a path between a pair of nodes in an IEEE 802.11b ad hoc network using dispersion traces between packet pairs of different lengths. The pairs of packets that suffer the minimum delay are used to estimate the maximum achievable transmission rate as a function of packet length, for any packet length, while the variability of the dispersions is used to estimate the fraction of that capacity that is available for data transmission. To model the dependence of the variability of the dispersion traces on the true fraction of available capacity, we use a neuro-fuzzy estimator trained on data collected from a large set of real and simulated scenarios. The system is shown to provide accurate estimates (within 15% of accuracy 80% of the time on the test data), to be efficient in the use of communication resources (transmits 48 kbps during the test), and to present low computational cost (about 500 floating point operations per estimate).

The Feedback Based Mechanism for Video Streaming Over Multipath Ad Hoc Networks
Ad hoc networks are multi-hop wireless networks without a pre-installed infrastructure. Such networks are widely used in military applications and in emergency situations as they permit the establishment of a communication network at very short notice with a very low cost. Video is very sensitive for packet loss and wireless ad-hoc networks are error prone due to node mobility and weak links. H...

Many performance evaluations for IEEE 802.11distributed coordination function (DCF) have been previouslyreported in the literature. Some of them have clearly indicatedthat 802.11 MAC protocol has poor performance in multi-hopwireless ad hoc networks due to exposed and hidden nodeproblems. Although RTS/CTS transmission scheme mitigatesthese phenomena, it has not been successful in thoroughlyomit...
متن کاملEvaluation of available bandwidth as a routing metric for delay-sensitive IEEE 802.15.4-based ad-hoc networks
In this paper, we evaluate available bandwidth as a routing metric for IEEE 802.15.4-based ad-hoc networks. The available bandwidth on a data forwarding path is an approximation of the forwarding path’s residual data relaying capacity. High available bandwidth on a data forwarding path implies low data traffic load on the path, therefore data flows may experience low delay and high packet deliv...

The popularity of wireless communication has increased substantially over the last decade, due to mobility support, flexibility and ease of deployment. Among next generation of mobile communication technologies, Ad Hoc networking plays an important role, since it can stand alone as private network, become a part of public network, either for general use or as part of disaster management scenari...
متن کاملProbabilistic Real-time Routing Protocol for Mobile Ad-hoc Networks Based on IEEE 802.11b
A mobile ad-hoc network (MANET) tries to solve the problem if the infrastructure is not available or inconvenient for its use such as in rural environments, trucks, cars or in battlefield. Mobile ad-hoc network consists of autonomous mobiles devices (nodes) that can also serve as router and can dynamically move around arbitrarily at appropriate speed in any direction resulting in an ever-changi...
